There are quite a few similarities and differences between these two books. First off, both books or people suffer on the ships. They both also have a very limited supply of food and water. Charlotte does not have to go through as much "death" as Gottlieb Mittelberger. And when Charlotte Doyle goes through on the Sea Hawk ends up being less tragic and unfair compared to the strange illnesses and treatments that Gottlieb went through.
