The image of the function, function p(x), is translated 5 units right and vertically stretch by a factor of 7.

How to compare a function and its image

In this question we find the definition and the graph of a function, with which its image must be compared. By direct inspection, we notice that image is the consecuence of two rigid transformations:

Horizontal translation

g(x) = f(x - a), there is rightward translation for a > 0.

Vertical stretch

g(x) = k · f(x), where k > 0.

The image of the function is the result of the following rigid transformations:

  1. Horizontal translation: 5 units right.
  2. Vertical stretch: Stretch factor: 7
