Multiply equation 1 by 3

Multiply equation 2 by 5

15x + 6y = -6

15x - 25y = 56

Subtrat 3 from 4

-31y= 62

Divide both sides by -31

y= -2

To arrive at x, substitute y= -2 in equation 1

5x + 2y = -2

5x + 2(-2)= -2

5x -4 = -2

Collect like terms

5x= -2+4

5x= 2

Divide both sides by 5
