The linear equation in slope-intercept form will be:

y = -x + 3

How to write the linear equation?

We want to find the equation of a line that passes through (4, -1) and that is parallel to y = -x + 4

Remember that two lines are parallel if the slopes are equal but the y-intercepts are different. So here we can write our line as:

y = -x + b

We want this line to pass through (4, -1), replacing that we will get:

-1 = -4 + b

-1 + 4 = b

3 = b

Then the equation is:

y = -x + 3
