Answer:

4\frac{1}{4}

Explanation:

Convert mixed numbers into improper fractions.

8
(1)/(2) -> 8 times 2= 16+1= 17/2

(17)/(2) times (1)/(2) -> 17 times 1 = 17, 2 times 2 = 17/4.

now convert to mixed number.

17/4 is going to be
4(1)/(4), why?

you divide 17 by 4 to get 4, multiply quotient by divisor 4, then subtract 16 from 17 = 1 the remainder. Hence
quotient(remainder)/(divisor) being 4\frac{1}{4}

begin again by using 4\frac{1}{4} this time.

4\frac{1}{4} times 1 = 4\frac{1}{4}

4\frac{1}{4} times 1\frac{1}{2} = 6\frac{3}{8}

6\frac{3}{8} times 2 = 12\frac{3}{4}

12\frac{3}{4} times 2\frac{1}{2} = 31\frac{7}{8}
