Answer: -7/2 & -1

Explanation:

Absolute value equations are split into positive and negatives. Therefore, you layout the equation as x-4 = 5x + 10 and x - 4 = -(5x + 10). There are 2 answers you can possibly get out of both equations, even one of them may not be correct.

Possibility 1: x ( -5x) - 4 = 5x (- 5x) + 10

Subtract 5x from both sides.

-4x - 4 (+ 4) = 10 (+4)

Add 4 to both sides.

-4x/4 = 14/-4

Possibility 1: -7/2

Possibility 2: x (+ 5x) - 4 = -5x ( + 5x)- 10

Add 5x to both sides.

6x - 4 (+4) = -10 (+4)

Add 4 to both sides.

6x/6 -6/6

Possibility 2: -1

P.S: If necessary, try inputting the answers back into an equation to check if an answer if right. Hope this helps. :D
