Two classmates got together over the weekend to do their assigned History reading. Mitchell can read 3 pages per minute, while Steve can read 2 pages per minute. When they met, Mitchell had already read 10 pages, and Steve had already gotten through 14 pages. After a while, they had both read the same number of pages. How many pages had each one read? How long did that take?

Answer:

Each person had read 24 pages, which took 5 minutes

Explanation:

Mitchell: 10 +3 +3 +3 +3 +3 = 24

Steve: 14 +2 +2 +2 +2 +2 = 24

You can also make a graph to visualize this problem easier.
