The USA was founded on July 4th 1776 as a break-away colony from Great Britain. it only has 13 states at the time. The USA's first president was George Washington. They expanded westward across North America in what it is called "Manifest Destiny". But in April 12th, 1861, The Civil War started against the slave owning south, and the anti-slave north. The Civil war ended in 1865, with the north being the winners. In 1917, The US joined World War I against the Germans. The US also joined World War II against the Axis Powers, both of them being US victory's. The US & USSR began the Cold War in 1947. Although there was no real conflict against the USSR, they fought several "Mini-Wars", A few examples are the Korean War and the Vietnam War. However, when the USSR collapsed in 1991, the Cold War came to an end. giving us the USA we know today
