Catabolism is the process of breaking down large complex molecules into smaller ones. It is induced by the presence of the large molecule.
Large carbohydrates in food are polysaccharides containing glucose. By breaking down these polysaccharides to obtain glucose to use in glycolysis to obtain ATP, the act of catabolism is induced and engaged
