The height of the tree is 38.5 feet, Option 2.

How to calculate the height of the tree

Let the base of the tree be B

Let BE = x

Let height of tree be h.

From ∆BTE

tan49 = h/x

h = tan49

BD = DE + BE

= 53 + x

From ∆BTD

tan24 = h/53 + x

h = (53+x)tan24

= 53tan24 + xtan24

Equate the expressions for h

53tan24 + xtan24 = xtan49

x(tan49-tan24) = 53tan24

x(1.1504 - 0.4452) = 53*0.4452

0.7052x = 23.5956

x = 23.5956/0.7052

= 33.459 feet

Substitute into h = xtan49

h = 33.459tan49

= 38.49 = 38.5 feet

The height of the tree is 38.5 feet, Option 2.
