y = 3x - 11

Explanation:

  • First, use the y2-y1/x2-x1 format to find the slope: 20 - 5/3 - (-2)

(Note: change 3 - (-2) to 3 + 2 to make it easier for you)

  • Simplify 15/5.

Your slope would be 3/1 or 3.

  • Now use the slope-intercept format: y = mx + b

(Use either the first point or second point, I chose the first)

5 = 3(-2) + b

  • Multiply 3 and -2, which is -6.
  • Subtract 5 from -6: -6 - 5 = -11

Your y-intercept is -11.
