41% of the students are male

So the probability to choose 1 male is 0.41

55% take state course

9% of them are male

The probability of chose a male in state. course is

9% of 55%

9/100 * 55/100 = 0.0495

The probability that a student is male and take the state course is 0.0495

The number of females = 100% - 41% = 59%

Since 9% of 55% are male taking the course

Then the rest are females

So subtract 0.0495 from 1 to get the number of females to take the course

1 - 0.0495 = 0.505

So subtract it from 0.59

0.59 - 0.505 = 0.085

The percent = 0.085 * 100% = 8.5%
