When we connect resistors in series the voltage across each of them will follow a different rule, that is, we need to calculate each of them and it depends on the resistance in each resistor and the current through the circuit; but, what we know is that the voltage in each resistor add up to the total supply voltage; therefore, the total voltage will stay the same.
