You have the following equation:

4x - 3 = 2x + 5

In order to solve the previous equation, it is ncessary that you have terms with variable x on one side of the equation and independent terms on the other side.

You proceed as follow:

4x - 3 = 2x + 5 subtract 2x both sides (to cancel out 2x of the right side)

4x - 2x - 3 = 5 add 3 both sides (to cancel out -3 of the left side)

4x - 2x = 5 + 3 simplify like terms both sides

2x = 8 divide by 2 both sides (to cancel out the 2 coefficient left side)

x = 8/2

x = 4

Hence, the solution to the given equation is x = 4
