The slope of the line passes through points (-5,8) and (x,y) is,

m=(y-8)/(x+5)

Substitute the value of x and y to check which point not gives negative slope.

For (-1,-2),

\begin{gathered} m=(-2-8)/(-1+5) \\ =(-10)/(4) \\ =(-5)/(2) \end{gathered}

For (-4,9),

\begin{gathered} m=(9-8)/(-4+5) \\ =(1)/(5) \end{gathered}

So, point (-4,9) is answes as the value of slope for this point is postive.

The answer is option (B).
