Wacky Wizards sells the following prank toys. Use the situations in problems 3-4 to write and solve a system of equations to determine the price of each item.

The price per trick camera and fake snake is $6.25 and $5 respectively.

Using the parameters given to write a system equations ;

Elliot's purchase ;

  • 3x + 4y = 40 ____(1)

Kaci's purchase

  • 7x + 8y = 85 ____(2)

Multiply (1) 7 and (2) by 3

Now we have

21x + 28y = 280 ____(3)

21x + 24y = 255 ____(4)

subtract (3) from (4)

28y - 24y = 280 - 255

4y = 25

y = 6.25

substitute y = 6.25 in (1)

3x + 4(6.25) = 40

3x + 25 = 40

3x = 15

x = 5

Hence, the values of x and y are 6.25 and 5 respectively.
