The author mentions that rolled ice cream originated in Thailand and has quickly gained popularity in the United States . This highlights the appeal and widespread acceptance of this dessert .
The passage is:
Lots of scrumptious eats and treats come in roll presentation on your plate. For example, burritos, Swiss Cake rolls, Stromboli; with a list that could go on and on. One of the newest "rolled" food fads is rolled ice cream. This delicious indulgence originated in the Southeast Asian country of Thailand, and has quickly made its way into the hearts (and stomachs) of Americans around the country. Original rolled ice cream flavors such as mango, milk, chocolate, and green tea are being served in ice cream shops nation-wide as a newly enjoyed ice cream dessert.
Rolled ice cream looks exactly as you would imagine: ice cream served in long, frozen rolls of cream, stacked closely together in a bowl, smothered in hot fudge, whipped cream, or sprinkles.
Rolled ice cream starts out in a liquid state. The creamy liquid is poured directly onto a large, metal surface which can be anywhere from 8° to -20° Fahrenheit. The ice cream "chef" then uses metal spatulas to quickly manipulate the liquid, scraping and turning and mixing the cream as it hardens on the freezing surface. Next, the chef scrapes the now frozen ice cream into several long, thin layers. Afterwards, the spatula is slowly scraped under the layers, forming beautifully shaped frozen rolls. Before the rolled ice cream is served to the patron, toppings are usually added to the dessert rolls, as they stand vertically, tightly packed in a serving dish. However, fruit, nuts, and cookies can also be added to the hardening cream before it is finally rolled up, ready to be served and enjoyed.
