.

Write the equation in slope-intercept form for the line that passes through the given point

and is parallel to the given equation.

5x – 4y = 4 and passes through ( -8, 2)

step 1

Find the slope of the given equation

we have

5x-4y=4

isolate the variable y

4y=5x-4

y=(5/4)x-1

the slope is m=5/4

Remember that, if two lines are parallel, then their slopes are equal

so

The slope of the parallel line is m=5/4

step 2

Find the equation in slope intercept form

y=mx+b

we have

m=5/4

point (-8,2)

substitute in the equation

2=(5/4)*(-8)+b

solve for b

2=-10+b

b=2+10

b=12

therefore

the equation is

y=(5/4)x+12

or

y=1.25x+12
