Look at the steps for 3(2+4t).

3(2+4t) Multiply 3 by each addend.

3(2)+3(4t) To multiply 3 and 4t, multiply 3 and 4. The variable stays the same. So, 3(4t)=12t.

6+12t

So, 3(2+4t) and 6+12t are equivalent expressions.
