The length of a rectangular garden is 3 feet less than twice its width. If 48 feet of fencing is used to enclose the garden, what are the dimensions of the garden?

Answer:

Explanation:

So its a rectangle which means it has 4 sides

two of the sides are x feet long

and two of them are 2x -3 feet long

we also know that all of the sides together are 48 feet long

so the equation would look like

2(x)+2(2x-3)=48

or x+x+2x-3+2x-3=48

It doesn't matter which one you use because they both simplify to

6x-6=48

add 6 to both sides

6x=54

divide both sides by 4

x=9
