Remember that the y-intercept occurs when x = 0, and that the x-intercept occurs when y = 0. Thus, we'll just have to clear x and y from the equation of the line, using this data.

For the x-intercept:

\begin{gathered} 4x-8y=40\rightarrow4x-8(0)=40\rightarrow4x=40\rightarrow x=(40)/(4) \\ x=10 \\ \text{Intercept}=(10,0) \end{gathered}

For the y-intercept

\begin{gathered} 4x-8y=40\rightarrow4(0)-8y=40\rightarrow-8y=40\rightarrow y=-(40)/(8) \\ y=-5 \\ \text{Intercept}=(0,-5) \end{gathered}

Therefore, the x intercept is (10 , 0) and the y-intercept is (0 , -5)
