so the opposite sides are equal to each other, therefore

4x + 7 = 12x - 1

and y + 1 = 3y - 11

so for the xs

start by adding 1 to each side

4x + 8 = 12x

subtract 4x from both sides

8=8x

divide by 8

x=1

for the ys

subtract one from each side

y= 3y -12

subract 3y from each side

-2y=-12

divide by -2

y=6
