1) Aluminum extraction.

To extract aluminum, huge amounts of energy are needed. In order to decrease energy consumption cryolite (Na3AlF6) is used. This can cause fluorine gas production which is toxic. In this process, they use graphite which produces carbon dioxide (CO2). So, graphite is constantly replaced. The process has a high cost.
