At the Denver International Airport, planes must clear a mountain that is 1000 feet tall that is a horizontal distance of 2800 feet away. At what angle of elevation must the plane take off in order to safely clear the mountain ? Round your answer to the nearest WHOLE degree.

Explanation:

Will have a triangle with horizontal distance being 2800, and vertical being 1000 feet. Angle between the horizontal and hypotenuse is what we are looking for.

Thus it's a tangent function.

So we will be looking at doing an Arctan to find the angle.

Arctan α =
(1000)/(2800) = 19.29 degrees. Round to the nearest whole degree would be 19 degrees due to being less than .50
