it depends on the snake, size, nesting and feeding habits, some live among trees, others live under leaf litter, and so on, so for some snakes is beneficial as can use abandoned burrows to nest, either laying eggs or just as a shelter, for others can imply a benefit as food intake, many snakes are predators of small rodents or consume eggs, so fitting in a burrow allows the easy access to food, Finally, we can say that in conjunction, being safe from predators, safekeeping offspring or access to food improve fitness/survival of certain snakes.
