The formula for the slope between two points (x_1,y_1) and (x_2,y_2) is,

m=(y_2-y_1)/(x_2-x_1)

Determine the slope between points (1,-4) and (-3,8).

\begin{gathered} m=(8-(-4))/(-3-1) \\ =(12)/(-4) \\ =-3 \end{gathered}

So answer is -3.
