You plan to sell cookies for your Math Club. It costs $0.15 each to bake a cookie and $25.00 for packaging materials. The first 48 cookies are samples and will not be sold.

B. What is the average cost if 1000 cookies are baked?​

A)
(.15x + 25 + 48(.15))/(x + 48) which can be simplified to
(32.2 + .15x)/(x + 48) = f(x)

  • x in this equation is the cookies because the number of cookies someone wants to make is unknown
  • 25 is the total cost of materials used total
  • 48(.15) would be the cost of the samples
  • f(x) is the answer for when you plug in x

B)

plug in 952 to x because x is the number of cookies left that you need to bake since 48 has been taken out already for the samples


(32.2 + .15(952))/(952 + 48) ----->
(32.2 + 142.8)/(1000)------>
(175)/(1000) ------> $0.175 or 17.5 cents
