The Solution:

Definition:

A simple random sample is a subset of a statistical population in which each member of the subset has an equal probability of being chosen. A simple random sample is meant to be an unbiased representation of a group.

To select a sample of 60 people from a population of 1200 people.

Step 1:

We can divide the 1200 people by 60.

\begin{gathered} (1200)/(60)=20 \\ \text{ That is, make 60 groups with each group having 20 people.} \end{gathered}

Step 2:

Randomly select 1 person from each of the 60 groups to get your required sample of 60 people.
