To solve this equation remember how to solve for x in logarithmic equations. For example:

\begin{gathered} \log x=a \\ 10^(\log x)=10^a \\ x=10^a \end{gathered}

Do the same procedure for the given equation.

\begin{gathered} \log (5-x)=0.5 \\ 10^(log(5-x))=10^(0.5) \\ 5-x=\sqrt[]{10} \\ -x=\sqrt[]{10}^{}-5 \\ x=5-\sqrt[]{10}^{} \end{gathered}

x has a value of 5-sqrt(10).
