Area = 312 yds

length (l) = 2width + 2

Formula

Area = length x width

Substitution

312 = (2 width + 2) (width)

312 = 2width^2 + 2width

2width^2 + 2width - 312 = 0

width^2 + width - 156 = 0

Factor

( x + 13)(x - 12) = 0

x1 = -13 x2 = 12

width = 12 yds

length = 2(12) + 2

length = 24 + 2

length = 26

Results

length = 26 yds

width = 12 yds
