The strategy in solving an equation is to isolate the variable x on one side of the equation by moving the constant on the other side. If we move a term from one side of the equation to the other side, the rule is we have to change it;s sign. Now let's apply this in this problem

- 10 = 2x + 6

-10 - 6 = 2x

-16 = 2x

since the goal is to solve for x, we have to divide everything by 2. the rule is whatever you do on one side , you got to do it on the other side as well.

-16 / 2 = 2x / 2

-8 = x

answer: x = - 8
