You have written equation for Main Street and Elm street. Since both equations are start with y=, how can you combine these two equations to write a new equation that involves only x?

Answer:

The two equations (representing value of variable Y) can be equated and converted into one single equation with X variable only

Explanation:

If the starting of both the equation is from "Y=" then it means that whatever equation (having x variable) they are representing will be equal to each other as both the equation on one side are ultimately equal to Y

For example

Y = 3X + 5 ---- Eq (1)

Y = 7X +6 ---- Eq (2)

So both are equal

3X + 5 = 7X + 6

4X + 1 = 0

In this way the two equations (representing value of variable Y) can be equated and converted into one single equation with X variable only
