A string can hold up 12 kg without breaking. You tie the

string to a 30 kg object sitting on ice and use it to pull
the object horizontally for 22 m. Calculate the minimum
possible time to complete the task.

The minimum possible time to complete the task is 3.35 s.

How to calculate the minimum possible time without breaking?

The minimum possible time to complete the task is calculated by applying the following formula.

t = √(2d/a)

where;

  • d is the displacement of the object
  • a is the acceleration of the object

The acceleration of the object is calculated as follows;

T = Ma

mg = Ma

(12 kg x 9.8 m/s²) = 30 kg x a

117.6 = 30a

a = 117.6 / 30

a = 3.92 m/s²

The minimum possible time to complete the task is calculated as;

t = √(2d/a)

t = √(2 x 22/3.92)

t = 3.35 s
