Answer:

width = 5 ft

length = 9 ft

Explanation:

Here, we want to get the length and width of the garden

length is 1 ft less than twice the width

if width = w

length = 2w-1

The product of the two is 45

so, we have it that;

w(2w-1) = 45

2w^2 - w = 45

2w^2 - w -45 = 0

2w^2 - 10w + 9w -45 = 0

2w(w-5) + 9(w-5) = 0

(2w + 9)(w-5) = 0

2w + 9 = 0

or w -5 = 0

w = 5 or-9/2

w cannot be negative, so we = 5

l = 2(5) -1 = 10 - 1 = 9 ft
