The history of Mesopotamia is not as paid attention to in Iraq due to the lack of monumental structures, the region's dependency on trade, and the influence of Western interest in biblical archaeology. Mesopotamia did not have the same level of unity and empire building as Egypt, which contributed to its history being less prioritized.

Mesopotamia, the region that is now modern-day Iraq, is not given as much attention in Iraq's history due to several factors. Firstly, there is a lack of evidence of monumental structures like the pyramids in Egypt or the royal tombs of Ur in Mesopotamia.

This creates a perception that Mesopotamia did not have the same level of cultural importance or grandeur.

Moreover, Mesopotamia lacked important resources such as stone for building, precious metals, and timber. As a result, the region relied on long-distance trade for these materials.

While Mesopotamia had a centralized authority to manage large-scale irrigation and farming, it did not have the same level of unity and empire building as Egypt.

For example, Egypt was unified much earlier than Mesopotamia, allowing it to emerge as a unified state whereas Mesopotamia remained a collection of independent city-states for a longer period of time.
