Who were the Sepoys ?
Sepoys were Indian soldiers who served in the British East India Company's (EIC) army. They were primarily recruited from the northern and central regions of India, particularly the Bengal Presidency, due to their martial traditions and physical prowess.
They faced discrimination and marginalization within the EIC's ranks, often receiving lower pay and being subjected to harsher disciplinary measures compared to their British counterparts.
This growing resentment among the sepoys, coupled with religious and political grievances, eventually culminated in the outbreak of the Indian Rebellion of 1857, also known as the Sepoy Mutiny.
