Answer: Because Knowing only side-side-angle (SSA) does not work because the unknown side could be located in two different places. Knowing only angle-angle-angle (AAA) does not work because it can produce similar but not congruent triangles. The AS.S Postulate does not exist because an angle and two sides does not guarantee that two triangles are congruent. If two triangles have two congruent sides and a congruent non included angle, then triangles are NOT NECESSARILY congruent. And The SSA (or AS.S) combination deals with two sides and the non-included angle. This combination is humorously referred to as the "Donkey Theorem". SS.A (or AS.S) is NOT a universal method to prove triangles congruent since it cannot guarantee that the shapes of the triangles formed will always be the same.
