The table lists recommended amounts of food to order for 25 guests. Nathan is hosting a graduation party for 40 guests. There will also be guests stopping by for a short time. For ordering purposes, Nathan will count each of the 45 “drop-in” guests as half a guest. How much of each food item should Nathan order?

Fried Chicken 24 pieces
Deli Meats 3 2/3 pounds
Lasagna 10 3/4 pounds

The number of each food item which Nathan should order include;

60 1/2 pieces of Fried Chicken.

9 1/4 pieces of Deli Meats.

27 1/10 pieces of Lasagna.

Based on the information provided in the contigency table shown above, the total number of guests can be calculated as follows;

Total number of guests = Number of regular guests + Number of drop-in guests

Total number of guests = 40 + (45/2)

Total number of guests = 40 + 22.5

Total number of guests = 62.5 ≈ 63 guests (since we cannot have a half guest).

Since the table lists recommended amounts of food to order for 25 guests only, the number of each food item which Nathan should order can be calculated as follows;

Rate of increase of each food item = 63/25

Rate of increase of each food item = 2.52

Number of Fried Chicken = 2.52 × 24

Number of Fried Chicken ≈ 60 1/2 pieces.

Number of Deli Meats = 2.52 × 3 2/3

Number of Deli Meats ≈ 9 1/4 pieces.

Number of Lasagna = 2.52 × 10 3/4

Number of Lasagna ≈ 27 1/10 pieces.
