The sum of 6 times a number and 8 times another number is 12. The difference of those numbers is 9. What are the two numbers

Answer:

(x,y): (6 , -3) or (-30/7 , 33/7)

Explanation:

6x + 8y = 12

x = y + 9 or y = x+ 9

if x = y+9

6*(y+9) + 8y = 12

14y = -42

y = -3 and x = 6

if y = x+9

6x + 8*(x+9) = 12

14x = -60

x = -30/7 and y = 33/7
