The free body diagram of the forces consists of upward force known as normal force (N) and downward force known as weight (W).

How to draw the free body diagram of the forces?

The free body diagram of the forces consists of the following forces;

the weight of the child and the chair acting downwards

the reaction of the floor on the chair acting upwards

The magnitude of the upward force is calculated as;

N = mg

where;

  • m is the total mass of the system
  • g is acceleration due to gravity

N = (3.7 kg + 93 kg ) x 9.8 m/s²

N = 947.7 N

The magnitude of the downward force is calculated as follows;

W = Upward force = 947.7 N

The free body diagram is shown in the image attached.
