Answer:

x = 7

y = 4

Explanation:

Since the base sides of isoceles triangle are equal on left side.

So,

y + 12 = 3x - 5

Isolate y

y = 3x - 5 - 12

y = 3x - 17 ...... [i]

Since the equilateral triangle in the right side has all side equal.

So,

3x - 5 = 5y - 4

Substitute value of y .

3x - 5 = 5( 3x - 17) - 4

Now, distribute the 5 on the right side:

3x - 5 = 15x - 85 - 4

3x - 5 = 15x - 89

Add 89 on both sides:

3x - 5 + 89 = 15x - 89 + 89

3x + 84 = 15x

Subtract 3x on both sides:

3x + 84 - 3x = 15x - 3x

84 = 12x

Divide both sides by 12.

(84)/(12)=(12x)/(12)

7 = x

x = 7

Substitute the value of x in equation 1st:

y = 3 × 7 - 17

y = 21 - 17

y = 4

Therefore, the value of:

x = 7

y = 4
