1. From the diagram , the corresponding angles in the triangle are equal, but the lengths are not equal, thus the two triangles are similar.

2. from the diagram;

angle A = angle B ( alternate angles)

angle C = angle D ( alternate angles)

angle AEC = angle BED ( vertical angles)

Therefore, ∆ AEC is similar to triangle BED

The ratios of the corresponding sides

= DE/EC = BE/AE = AC/DB
