Should Belgium stop the production of the hand-styled chocolates?

Answer:

Severed hands symbolize one grisly chapter of Belgium's history. To insist on making snacks in this shape is to mock those who were murdered, tortured, raped, and mutilated – even if it's only a coincidence that a severed hand symbolized both Antwerp's founding myth and Leopold's Congo.

The scare comes a few weeks after a case where chocolates were contaminated with salmonella in the Ferrero factory that makes Kinder chocolates in Arlon in southern Belgium. Belgian health authorities said on 17 June that they had given the green light to restart the Ferrero factory for a three-month test period.

When Belgium colonized the Congo, they stepped up their chocolate-making game. It was here that they discovered a huge number of cocoa beans.
