Answer:

C is the cost per mile driven.

The y-intercept is 40, it's relevance to the equation is the starting fee for the rental.

The slope is 5/15, or 1/3.

The equation can be written as

y=1/3 x + 40

y = C

C = 1/3 x + 40

Answer:

C = 3m + 40

Explanation:

the equation of a line in slope- intercept form is

y = mx + c ( m is the slope and c the y- intercept )

calculate slope m using the slope formula

m =
(y_(2)-y_(1) )/(x_(2)-x_(1) )

let (x₁, y₁ ) = (5, 55) and (x₂, y₂ ) = (10, 70) ← 2 points on the line

substitute these values into the formula for m

m =
(70-55)/(10-5) =
(15)/(5) = 3

the line crosses the y- axis at (0, 40 ), then c = 40

replace y by C, x by m , then

C = 3m + 40 ← equation of line

the point on the y- axis (0, 40 ) , that is 40 represents the initial charge
