Point slope form is y-y1=m(x-x1) then u substitute so it’s Y+4=1/3(x+2) it’s plus 2 and plus 4 because they are negative and when you subtract a negative it turns positive so y- -4=1/3(x- -2) but then u change - - to a +

Answer:

y - (-4) = 1/3(x - (-2))

Explanation:

First identify what the point-slope formula is:

y - y₁ = m(x - x₁)

y₁ represents the y coordinate of one point and x₁ represents the x coordinate of the same point.

The "m" stands for the slope.

All you have to do in this problem is plug in the values they give you into this formula.

We are given a:

Point of (-2, -4)

Slope of 1/3

Now let's substitute these values into the formula:

y - y₁ = m(x - x₁)

Becomes:

y - (-4) = 1/3(x - (-2))

This will be your equation.

If you'd like to simplify further, you could say:

y + 4 = 1/3(x + 2)

Since the negatives combine to make a positive.
