Answer:

f(x): x = 8, g(x): x = 3

Explanation:

We can see that f(x) is a quadratic, set out in the form a(x - h)^2 + c. For a quadratic, the axis of symmetry, or a straight line that makes the shape of the object symmetrical, will always be on its turning point. Luckily for us, this form is known as turning point form, and can easily point to the answer. From this form, the turning point x co-ordinate can be found by making inside the backets equal zero. Hence:

x - 8 = 0

x = 8

Since this is a quadratic, we know that the axis of symmetry is going to be a vertical line, and therefore the x co-ordinate is all we need.

The axis of symmetry for f(x) is x = 8

H is a similar process, but a bit easier. As a quadratic, the axis of symmetry will still be the turning point, and so we can read this off the graph as the highest point on the parabola. Hence:

Turning point = (3, 2)

Again, as a vertical line we only need the x co-ordinate for our answer:

The axis of symmetry for g(x) is x = 3

Hope that helps
