In the figure, the values of x and y ae

x = 5 inches

y = 16 inches

How to find the values of x and y

From the area of triangle ABC, we solve for y

Area, A = 0.5 base * height

where

base = y

height = 2.5

A = 20 square inches

plugging in the values

20 = 0.5 (y) * 2.5

40 = 2.5(y)

y = 40/2.5

y = 16 inches

To find x, we will require angle C. We find angle C using trigonometry for the right triangle BEC

sine C = opposite / hypotenuse

sine C = 2.5 / 8

C = arcsin (2.5/8) = 18.21

Using right triangle ADC, now y = 16 inches is the hypotenuse

sine C = x/y

2.5/8 = x / 16

x = (16 * 2.5) / 8

x = 5 inches

The area of the shaded triangle below is 20 square inches. Find the values of x and-example-1
