Explanation:

well, you replace w by 3 and then simply calculate.

so, what is the actual function ?

is it t = 4w² ?

then for w = 3 we get

t = 4×3² = 4×9 = 36

is it t = (4w)² ?

then that means t = 16w².

and for w = 3 we get

t = 16×3² = 16×9 = 144

is the function anything else ? the way you wrote it, it leaves quite some room for speculation what it actually might have been, and what you might have skipped.

W = 3
So 4 x 3 = 12
t = 4w
4w = 12
So t = 12
