The plot of point B after a dilation with a scale factor of 1/2 and point P as center of dilation is attached
What is dilation?
The term dilation refers to a geometric transformation that changes the size of a figure without altering its shape. During a dilation, each point of the original figure remains on the same line, but the distance between the points and a fixed center, known as the center of dilation, is either stretched or compressed.
When the scale factor is:
- less than one, a compression is noticed
- greater than one, a stretch is noticed
The point showing the dilated part in the figure is labeled B'
