The difference of the polynomial expressions; (5.5·n² + 8 - 3·n) and (-3·n² - 5) is; 8.5·n² - 3·n + 13

What is a polynomial; A polynomial is an expression consisting of positive whole number powers of variables, coefficients and numbers joined by mathematical operators including addition, subtraction and multiplication.

The difference between the polynomials, (5.5·n² + 8 - 3·n) and (-3·n² - 5), can be found by subtracting the coefficient of the terms that have the same power of the variable n, as follows;

(5.5·n² + 8 - 3·n) - (-3·n² - 5)

(5.5·n² + 8 - 3·n) - (-3·n² - 5) = 5.5·n² - (-3·n²) - 3·n + (8 - (-5))

5.5·n² - (-3·n²) - 3·n + (8 - (-5)) = 5.5·n²+ 3·n² - 3·n + 8 + 5

5.5·n²+ 3·n² - 3·n + 8 + 5 = 8.5·n² - 3·n + 13

(5.5·n² + 8 - 3·n) - (-3·n² - 5) = 8.5·n² - 3·n + 13
